Cakes and More...

So just recently I've decided I wanted to start a new hobby. I got thinking and I love to bake and make food So, why not experiment and try decorating cakes! Great Idea! I went to the library and got a few books on how to decorate cakes! This got me all excited to learn that a lot goes in a cake. I had no clue how difficult you can make a cake. Well, I was determined to make a heart shaped cake for valentines coming up. So, I got all my ingredients and started baking. I took the cake out of the oven and I left it to cool in the pan for a bit. but, my instructions said to take out of pan to cool on a rack so I did so. As I was taking the cake out it cracked in half..I was so mad. The first thing I had to do was ruined. But, it actually looked okay put back together and the frosting wouldn't show it and I was going to attempt fondant!
Frosting of the cake:
Then came the hard part...Kneading of the fondant to dye it pink! It took a lot of work but, I finally got it the color I wanted it!Fondant color:
I'm really not very creative when it comes to thinking of ideas of what to make the cake look like. If I have an example I can usually just copy it but this time I had to come up with something. Here is the final cake!

I think that it turned out pretty good for being my first cake! I will post about my next cake that I have in mind!!

If you ever want to borrow anything I have, you are more than welcome to it! I also have a heart shaped pan, but have only used it once and that was for a cake for Erin's bridal shower...and it did not turn out have as beautiful as yours! Good Job Emily! Oh and there's this stuff that wilton makes called cake release that works amazingly well for getting cakes out!
